Dealerloop vs Impel: which fits your dealership?

Impel is a serious, global AI platform for automotive retail, and getting bigger: it acquired Outsell in June 2026 in a deal reported above US$100 million, extending into marketing automation and customer-data platforms. Dealerloop is an Australian sales lifecycle engine built for this market. Depending on who you are, the right answer genuinely differs.

The short version

Choose Impel if you’re a large franchise group wanting one enterprise AI suite across sales, service, merchandising and now marketing automation — particularly if you run Pentana’s DMS ecosystem, where Impel’s Sales AI integrates with DealerSocket and its Service AI is resold alongside eraPower. Its service-department AI covers ground Dealerloop doesn’t touch.

Choose Dealerloop if you’re an Australian dealership that wants enquiries answered from your live stock in seconds, test drives booked, carsales enquiry conversations handled directly, and the delivery handover — licensing paperwork, e-signing, checklists — run in one system, month-to-month, with Australian-hosted data.

The verdict

Where to draw the line

For a large franchise group on Pentana with busy service lanes, Impel’s breadth is the point — one vendor across sales, service, merchandising and marketing, procured once. For an Australian independent doing 40 cars a month, that breadth is overhead: enterprise implementation, a 90-day cancellation window, and modules you may never switch on, while the things that decide your month (the carsales enquiry answered from your real stock at 9pm, Saturday’s test drives booked, Thursday’s delivery paperwork done) are exactly what Dealerloop was built around.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

Is Impel overpriced?
No — it’s priced for enterprise scope. The question is whether you need enterprise scope.
We’re on Pentana — does that decide it?
No. Dealerloop sits alongside your DMS deliberately (engagement and lifecycle, not the system of record), so it works regardless of DMS. Impel’s Pentana integration is deeper on the DMS side; Dealerloop’s carsales enquiry handling and delivery handover are deeper on the enquiry-to-delivery side. The partnership announcements don’t state exclusivity in either direction. Decide by which side your leak is on.
